Lakeland Art League
Start Your Art Journey
The Lakeland Art League promotes the visual arts in North Central Wisconsin; Lakeland Art League is a non-profit organization. The art league’s purpose is to develop artistic abilities through workshops, exhibitions and peer support.
Members of the Lakeland art League come from communities all over Wisconsin with one goal in mind, to make and share art.

OUR HISTORY
In 1965, Phyllis Blazkowski founded the loosely formed “Woodruff Art Club”. In 1975, class students of Phyllis Blazkowski formed the Lakeland Art League with the first official meeting in February. The name Lakeland Art League came to be from the northern areas of Wisconsin where members have long declared the lakes and woods of the area inspiration for their art. Members met at the town hall in Woodruff and had a board of elected officials. After some years, in January 1979, a demo by Carolien Ashburn, who had a ceramic business at the Senior Center saved the league. The club now had a place to meet. The club grew and so did events and exhibits. In March 1986, under the direction of Doug Spicer, Articles of Incorporation were filed, and the league formally became The Lakeland Art League, Inc. The league operated for many years from the Minocqua Senior Center until a fire destroyed the building. Since 2020, the league has held meetings and workshops in Hazelhurst, just south of Minocqua. Today the art league is thriving with a healthy membership, a variety of workshops and multiple exhibits.
